She said that she smoked for 50 years. This is borderline criminal
for a professional chef, given they need all their smell and taste buds
for getting the ingredients right. (yeah I know her nemesis, Tony
Bourdain smokes) I think Type 2 diabetes is the least of her concerns,
given she probably has some serious heart disease, given she was a
smoker for years, she is obviously overweight, and she eats a very high
fat, low fiber, mineral deficent diet. Her triglycerides levels are
probably through the roof.
Even before her Type 2 diabetes diagnosis three years ago, she
probably was told by any doctor who did her medical check ups that she
was in danger for diabetes and some serious cardiac problems.
I am not expecting a "mea culpa" from her, but to be a paid spokeswoman
for a pharmaceutical company that sells expensive diabetic medication,
is pretty unethical. If the Food Network is so worried that Paula Deen
would go to another cooking network along with her ratings, they should
cut their losses now, given they are in some ways just as responsible
for her recklessness as she is for pushing her very unhealthy recipes.
