It was a poor choice of words on her part. What she was actually
talking about was the politics of the pressure involved, exerted by
the studio and others, in having to deal with the media to promote
herself for the Oscar in the few months prior to the awards, which she
refused to do. So she was really speaking to those who knew what the
real story was behind what she said who would've been the only ones
"in the know." But yeah, simply saying "politics" without explaining
what she meant by it would've made a lot of people roll up their
eyes. Mine did, till I heard what it was actually about and then I
excused her for her poor choice of words.
