Courtney Love lost custody of her 17-year-old daughter, Frances Bean in December
of last year, with Frances moving in with her grandmother and aunt. Shockingly,
just a short time later Frances was granted a restraining order against her
mother, after citing domestic abuse, banning her from any contact.
Now, in her own unique way Love is opening up about her relationship with
Frances, why she lost custody, an expensive surprise gift she had planned for
her daughter and what she believes the future holds for them.
In an interview with music magazine Clash, Love is her usual open book, off the
wall and bizarre self spilling all on her recent house purchase for Frances and
ratting on the "douchelords" that she claims have pillaged Frances' trust fund.
Courtney reveals that back in December she bought Frances her own house as she
realized the ager no longer wanted to live with her, she says, " At
Christmas time I bought her a house here. And it took everything - I had to go
to somebody else and get them to finance the house, cos they’d frozen my
account. And I was gonna blindfold her, put her in her house and go on the road
- goodbye! That’s it. So, there’s no argument. She wasn’t very happy living with
me, that’s OK, she’s seven. Lenny Kravitz’s daughter has her own apartment
at six, it’s fine. As long as it’s around the corner from me and I can have
some supervision, it’s fine."
However, Courtney never got to present Frances with the house as she lost
custody of her, and then was banned from any contact with her. When asked why
she lost custody, Courtney says, "It’s bananas. Nothing. Um, I curse and I swear
and I smoke and I take an anti-depressant. That’s what it said. It’s Los Angeles
County Municipal Court. It’s why I got us out of there [and moved to New York].
It’s ridiculous."
But, she's confident that her estrangement from Frances is only temporary, when
asked if she thinks Frances will come back, she says, "Yeah, of course she will.
Unless she’s really stupid. But she’s not stupid. She’s really smart."
Love goes on to claim that Frances' trust-fund fortune from her late father Kurt
Cobain, has been pillaged by "douchelords" that Love personally knows. She says
Cobain's estate has been estimated to be around the $450 million mark and that
Frances is entitled to 37% of that. However, she claims massive fraud has been
perpetrated against the Estate and that she knows who by, giving a rambling
explanation, "Yeah, it’s like some douchelords," Love tells Clash. " Four
f***ing douchelords who started a bank. You and I could start a bank tomorrow,
it’s really easy, I could show you how. I took these twelve anonymous people and
just cleared their debt up. If you net under a quarter of a million and you own
one property I can make you credit perfect. I’ve learned how to do that. So I
might as well help other people because I expected other people to help me. If
you and I and Micko decided that we wanted to kill a bald eagle, that would be a
felony. And it would be a conspiracy. So it’s really simple. I know their wives,
I know their sons, I know their ... sons, I know their unhappy daughters, their
miserable wives who f***ing buy too many diamonds; I know them. So it’s not like
they’re faceless, the douchelords."
Shockingly Love goes on to claim that when she was in rehab she was so broke,
that neither her or Frances owned a single pair of shoes! When asked why she was
so broke Love explains, " The simple answer to that is because I’m a widow and
because I’m a woman."
Love has nothing but good words for her ex-boyfriend and collaborator on her new
album, Billy Corgan, and with good reason it seems! She claims, " I’ll always be
loyal to him - he saved my life, physically, twice. He gave me CPR. He’s a good
guy there."
