As it relates to why he should resign, I completely agree. He abandoned
his job, his responsibilities and his state.

But as it relates to his hypocrisy, I think it's still something of
concern.

This is "very damaging stuff," Sanford declared at one point, when
details of Clinton's conduct became known. "I think it would be much
better for the country and for him personally (to resign)... I come from
the business side," he said. "If you had a chairman or president in the
business world facing these allegations, he'd be gone."

Explaining his decision to back impeachment articles against Clinton, he
added, "I think what he did in this matter was reprehensible... I feel
very comfortable with my vote."

Because he so strongly criticized Clinton, he must hold himself to his
own standard, and should be judged by that standard. And that standard
is based on his criticism of Clinton's adultery.

He is part of a party, indeed part of the "Class of '94" that had a
"contract with America" to restore dignity and integrity to politics.

They built their platform around "marriage = 1 man + 1 woman" and he
clearly violated that.

Because he has not held himself to his own standard, he is a liar and a
hypocrite. The resultant loss of faith in him has destroyed his ability
to lead.

Another quote from the URL above: "And toward the end of the saga, he
insisted that Clinton could not operate with any effectiveness because
he'd been untruthful."

For these reasons, adultery is a legitimate concern.
