The View co-host and well-known Republican enthusiast Elisabeth
Hasselbeck spent the day wowing delegates at the Republican National
Convention Thursday.
Hasselbeck, 31, served as the official emcee at a luncheon for Cindy
McCain just hours before John McCain's big speech. Hasselbeck also
showed off vintage-style "McCain '08" T-shirts she designed herself,
and spent time on the floor of the convention taping a segment that
will air on Monday, Sept. 8, onThe View.
"She was a bit of a rock star," a source tells PEOPLE. "The
Republicans were all over her, fawning over her, telling her she was
the best, clapping and cheering at her speech at the lunch. She wrote
it herself, by the way."
On the floor of the convention center, Hasselbeck =96 whose second
child, Taylor Thomas, will celebrate his first birthday just days
after the November elections =96 was seen shaking hands with delegates
between interviewing Jon Voight, Cindy McCain, Roberta McCain, Stephen
Baldwin, Henry Kissinger and Sean Hannity. Fox News Channel's Hannity
was even a lucky recipient of one of her limited-edition T-shirts. "He
said it was a little small, but cute. So he kept it," the source
says.
Hasselbeck also scored a one-on-one meeting the GOP vice presidential
candidate Sarah Palin.
Hasselbeck will continue spending time with the McCain family next
week when their daughter Meghan is a guest on the show Tuesday. Then
on Friday, John and Cindy McCain will sit with Hasselbeck, Barbara
Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd on the chat-
fest's couch for an entire show. Their appearance will kick off The
View's "Red, White and View" campaign of programming aimed at getting
the vote out in November. |
