Whatever happened to Beaver?

It is always interesting to see what happens to child celebrities
after they move on from the show or movie that lifted them to
stardom. That being said, whatever happened to Jerry Mathers, the
actor who played Beaver from "Leave it to Beaver"? Let us fill you
in ...
After his run on "Leave it to Beaver," Mathers already had three
movies under his belt but decided to retire from acting to focus on
school. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks,
Calif. in 1967, and then earned a philosophy degree from UC Berkeley
in 1973. Money that he had stowed away from his short acting career
was enough to fund his start-up in a career as a real estate developer
and banker.
He tried another hand at the entertainment industry in 1978, having
bit parts in movies and shows through the 1980s and 90s. His most
recent film, titled "Douglas: The Christmas Movie," is currently in
production. He also joined the newest cast of Broadway's hit show,
"Hairspray," which began on June 5. As a licensed broadcaster, he is
often a guest on nationally broadcast radio and satellite shows.
Having been diagnosed with diabetes in 1996, Mathers became a leading
lecturer for people dealing with the disease and is currently a
sponsor for Johnson & Johnson's blood sugar monitoring system.
An article about "Leave it to Beaver" pins it as a morality-builder
with emphasis on four themes: education, marriage, occupation and
family. It seems as if the show parented Mathers in a way; he
graduated from one of the top universities in the country, has been
very successful in several careers, and raised three successful
children. The only moral lesson he flunked, by the standards of
"Leave it to Beaver," was marriage. Mathers has been married twice
and is currently divorced.
